Miami, FL, June 24, 2015 – APS Fulfillment, Inc. (www.APSFulfillment.com), one of the nation’s leading cost-effective fulfillment and integrated direct mail marketing companies, is reacting to a new study showing that U.S. East Coast ports could gain an additional 10% share of container traffic once the Panama Canal expansion is completed in 2016. APS Fulfillment, Inc. is also weighing in on how this will impact fulfillment services in the United States.

According to a recent research report, thanks to the completion of the Panama Canal expansion next year, a significant amount of container traffic to the U.S. from East Asia could shift from West Coast ports to East Coast ports. In 2014, roughly 35% of container traffic from East Asia to the U.S. arrived on East Coast ports; that could reach 50%, a 10% increase in market share, by 2020. “It is expected that the $5.0 billion expansion will permanently alter the competitive balance between ports on the U.S. East and West Coasts and change the way cargo moves into and within the U.S.,” says Charles Aultman, President of APS Fulfillment, Inc. “This could also create a more competitive advantage for brands seeking to get their products to their customers more quickly.”

Aultman explains that roughly half of the U.S. population lives in the Eastern time zone. Currently, goods shipped from East Asia through West Coast ports are transported by rail and truck across the U.S. For price- and time-sensitive cargo, routing shipments through East Coast ports to inland destinations will become more time- and cost-effective.

Centrally located in Southern Florida, APS Fulfillment, Inc. is just minutes from the Port Everglades and a short distance from the Port of Miami. On top of that, APS Fulfillment, Inc. is close to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and 40 minutes from the Miami International Airport.

“Fulfillment, warehousing, distribution, accuracy of pick and pack, and speed of delivery can make or break a company’s reputation,” Aultman concludes. “Because of the close proximity to two of North America’s largest export hubs, businesses that use APS Fulfillment, Inc. can have their products received, inventoried, and shipped in just two days. That advantage will become even more attractive once the Panama Canal extension is completed.”
